Democratic National Convention and Beyond
The Journey ahead is very exciting. This week I am traveling to Colorado for 9 days of conferences, meetings and mayhem, so stay tuned. The trip starts in Aspen at the American Renewable Energy Day, three days of panel discussions, climate change and renewable energy adoption. I’m looking forward to hearing Lester Brown, Majora Carter and Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) representatives present their perspectives. I’ll also be trying to get in a side trip to RMI in nearby Snowmass, CO. I have been a a big fan of their work since reading Natural Capitalism and taking a workshop with Amory Lovins several years ago at Esalen.
Then it is on to Denver for the Democratic National Convention. I am hoping to meet Sunday with team members of the Climate Prosperity Project to understand at a deeper level the strategy around their pilot cities that will be utilizing sustainability as the core mechanism for economic development. The rest of the week is unplanned, but I imagine I will be spending a lot of time in the Big Tent sponsored by the Alliance for Sustainable Colorado as a hub for bloggers. I am planning on attending a reception Tuesday in support of the creation of a Deptartment of Peace organized by the Peace Alliance. Also on Tuesday, I going to find some friends from Art in Action over at the Sustainable Living Roadshow in Hirshorn Park. I don’t know where I will be watching Obama’s historic acceptance speech at Invesco Field on Thursday. A side trip to the National Renewable Energy Lab in Golden, CO and the Boulder Center for Integral Living are also on the itinerary, if I can find a way to fit them in.
Sadly, I will be missing Slow Food Nation in San Francisco the weekend of Aug. 29-Sept. 1st, and Burning Man Aug. 25th-Sept. 1st. Burning Man’s theme of “American Dream” and the question of “What America can contribute to the world?” would be fantastic to experience considering the current climate in the country and Burners extraordinary creativity.
Hope you can virtually join me for the journey and please leave me a note on your thoughts or information that would be interesting for you coming out of this trip.

I’m looking forward to hearing your comments and thoughts about what Lester Brown and Majora Carter have to say. It would be cool if you took some video or good pictures from the Art in Action camp.

Thanks Brooks. I just picked up a replacement digital camera before I left San Francisco. I plan to do a video piece for Current TV on youth activism at the DNC where I am going to try to get some footage of the Art in Action artists.
